Management and Leadership

  • Excellent field of knowledge and excellent operation of every single organization;
  • functions of the staff;
  • management and conduct rules (style, power, influence, personal profile) and managerial process with its functions;
  • the process of building good relationships;
  • the basics of emotional intelligence with its components, and the ways of operating by means of emotional intelligence;
  • handling emotions, persuading;
  • active listening and providing the so called thinking space;
  • the process of establishing trust;
  • setting goals, solving problems and conflict situations, and efficient communication;
  • inspiring people to work to the best of their ability;
  • the concept of employee dedication, and its influence on motivation and corporate culture;
  • crew resource management (marine navigations and continental sailing, i.e. sailing on domestic shipping routes) and the management models with mistakes, the socio-psychological elements of leadership;
  • the relation between crew resource management and accidents;
  • organizational model of ship navigation in special circumstances;
  • the management of safety culture and standards, the role of leadership structures, and the recommendations for the improvement of the crew safety behavior;
  • the models and leverages of the human resources management (the employees in the company, the crew on a ship);
  • the influence of the personnel management on the strengthening of the safety culture in the traffic environment;
  • the concept of “leadership complacency” as an element of influence at the occurrence of air and sea accidents;
  • the analysis of the existing patterns and models of ensuring safety culture;

Goals and competencies

This course focuses deeply in acquisition of methodological and theoretical knowledge while developing models for the transfer of acquired knowledge into practice, and in the development of human resources scientific research who will be using modern research methods of studying the problems of leadership and management from the perspective of water transport in modern society.

Special attention is given to social responsibility, managerial ethics, and the importance of multi-national organizations (crew).

Competence:

Understanding who the leaders are, and who the managers are, who will help you create an organizational structure that not only addresses core business functions and needs, but also morale, culture and safety, which are equally if not even more important. It will also help you identify the course of wrong decisions.
