Goals and competencies

The goal of the subject is to give students knowledge about physico-chemical and technological characteristics of materials, with an emphasis on characteristics and use of these materials for fuels, lubricants and water). Students also get knowledge about marine pollution and transport of dangerous goods on the sea.

Student will get knowledge about characteristics and use of fuels, lubricants and water, preparation of these materials on the ship, safety requirements during storing and using, waste water treatment after the application of fuels, lubricants and water on the ship.

The content of the subject is in agreement with STCW convention A‐III/1, A‐III/2, and recommendations  »Chief engineer officer and second engineer officer (Model course 7.02)« in »Officer in charge of an engineering watch, (Model course 7.04)«, International Maritime Organization, London, 1999
