STCW Courses
Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Courses provided by the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport are in compliance with the provisions of the 1978 STCW Convention and 1995 STCW Code, as amended, and the exam requirements of Education Quality Standards for the international authorisation and/or certification as defined by the 1995 STCW Code and by the national legislation as follows:
- Training in content necessary for the certification and authorisation of professional seafarers shall be provided by an institution that is qualified for the training of seafarers, that has adopted Education Quality Standards, and has an accredited education and training programme.
- Assessment of knowledge and qualifications shall be carried out by an independent committee that is appointed by the signatory state and cannot be from the training institution.
- The exam registration form shall include a certificate of successfully completed education and training that is issued by the institution named under point a).
- The signatory state issues a certificate or authorisation, written in the Slovenian and English languages.
All courses are approved by the Slovenian Maritime Administration.

APPROVED TRAINING (IMO Model Courses) FOR STCW CERTIFICATES AND OTHER COURSES
Issued and endorsed by the Slovenian Maritime Administration, for masters, officers and GMDSS radio operators in accordance with the provisions of chapters II, III, IV or VII, entitling the lawful holder thereof to serve in the capacity and perform the functions involved at the level of responsibility specified.

Radio operator's competency:

Documents issued to the seafarer to certify that they have met the required standard of competence in a specific duty. It certifies that the holder meets STCW standards of competence in specific functions related to safety, care of persons, or cargo.

This is a document that is not necessarily issued or recognised by the maritime administration (and is not, therefore, called a certificate). Documents issued to attest that the seafarer has participated in a safety drill or has completed a training course are examples of documentary evidence.
