Engineering Measurements

Syllabus

The basic content chapters are:

• basics of measurements in engineering;

• basic control techniques;

• measurements of temperature and pressure;

• measurement of flow, speed and level of fluids;

• Sound and noise measurement; the notion of noise, the definition of the noise intensity and the effect of noise on humans. Permissible values in accommodation and work areas and sound insulation agents.

• measurements of displacements and vibrations

• power measurement (brake dynamometers) and rotational speed;

• measuring tension and forces in rigid bodies

• moisture measurements;

• measuring the radioactivity of various substances in different environments, the definition of radioactivity and exposure to allowable values in accommodation and work areas and protective equipment.

• analysis of gas components;

• selected chapters from sensors and measuring devices.

Goals and competencies

Measurement is an independent branch in technical disciplines, which represents a more substantial part of any development / research creation. Knowing the limits of the accuracy of the measuring devices enables the student to take a critical look at the limits of the management systems. After all, every thesis, every construction, the implementation / non-implementation of the rules (technical, legal), etc., check with measurements. The aim of the course is to present to the student in a condensed form the physical basics and technical performances of the metrological methods by which the ship's or energy engineer, and also every seafarer, are confronted in practice.
