Syllabus

Content according to IMO Model course 7.04:

Thorough knowledge of principles to be observed in keeping an engineering watch. Safety precautions to be observed during a watch and immediate actions to be taken

Oil Record Book (Part 1 - Machinery space operations and Part 2 - Cargo/Ballast operations). Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) including Shipboard Marine Pollution Emergency Plan (SMPEP) for Oil and/or Noxious Liquid Substances and Vessel Response Plan (VRP). Operating procedures of anti-pollution equipment, sewage plant, incinerator, commutator, ballast water treatment plant. Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Management Plan, Garbage Management System, Anti-fouling systems, Ballast Water Management and their discharge criteria.

Oily Water Separator / Similar Equipment and Operation. Control of discharge of oil

Operate fuel, lubrication, ballast and other pumping systems and associated control systems -  Pumps and Piping System Including Control System

Preparation, Operation and Preventing Damage

  • Air Compressor

STCW requirements

Thorough knowledge of principles to be observed in keeping an engineering watch, including: duties associated with taking over and accepting a watch, routine duties undertaken during a watch, maintenance of the machinery space logs and the significance of the readings taken, duties associated with handing over a watch. Safety and emergency procedures; change-over of remote/automatic to local control of all systems. Safety and emergency procedures for operation of propulsion plant machinery, including control systems. Preparation, operation, fault detection and necessary measures to prevent damage for the following machinery items and control systems: main engine and associated auxiliaries, steam boiler and associated auxiliaries and steam Systems, auxiliary prime movers and associated systems, other auxiliaries, including refrigeration, air-conditioning and ventilation systems. Detection of machinery malfunction, location of faults and action to prevent damage.

Inspection and adjustment of equipment. Non-destructive examination

Goals and competencies

Ability to apply task and workload management, including: planning and, coordination, personnel assignment, time and resource constraints, prioritization. Manage safe and effective maintenance and repair procedures. Planning maintenance, including statutory and class verifications. Planning repairs.

Implementation of the learning content among others include requirements in accordance with the provisions of the STCW Convention A-III / 1, A-III / 2 and the recommendations of the "Officer and charge of an engineering watch (model course 7.04) "International Maritime Organization, London, 2014
