Engineering Graphics and Ship Documentation


Syllabus

Basics of descriptive geometry: drawing symmetrical lines and angles, drawing angles, drawing polygons, types of views, real line size, character. Display of a network of geometric bodies, cross-sections of geometric bodies with a plane.

Standards: classification and labeling of standards, standard numbers, product labeling.

Technical drawing: technical drawing techniques in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and construction. Projection drawing. Orthogonal projection, axonometric projection.

Dimensioning: Indication of surface quality. Tolerance. Simplified and schematic drawing of machine elements, a symbolic display of the elements of the installation technique. Types and importance of technical and technological documentation. Tolerances, adhesions, surface conditions. Standardization: Materials in machine building.

Computer and Engineering Graphics:

• Overview of options and comparison of existing programs

• When does it not ease the work? (When the machine or program is poor, with original ideas and unique)

• Computer modeling for design verification.

 

Ship documentation:

Requirements for classification of the ship: Principles of classification, Consequence of accepted principles, Organization of classification societies.

Classification of ships: Class validity, Combining ship inspection (harmonization). Official bookmarks, the meaning and consequences of bookmarks.

Compulsory Ship Inspections: Annual Survey, Intermediate Survey, Class renewal Survey.

Inspection of ships for the carriage of special cargoes: Ro-Ro passenger and Ro-Ro cargo ships, Container ships, Oil and oil derivatives, Chemical ships, Liquefied gas ships, Bulk carriers.

Use of materials in shipbuilding: Testing, acceptance, choice of material

Marine engines: Materials, documentation, testing, marine engine load measurement. An overview of the basic shipping documentation, schematics of ship's hardware and electrical scheme, ship's certificates.

 

Content according to IMO Model course 7.04:

  • Interpretation of machinery drawings and handbooks: Types of Drawing, Linework, Pictorial Projection, Development, Dimensioning, Geometrical Tolerancing, Limits and Fits, Engineering Drawing Practice
  • Engineering Drawing Practice with CAD tools
  • The interpretation of piping, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams

  • Oil Record Book (Part I - Machinery space operations) and Part II- Cargo/Ballast operations)

Ship’s documentation:

  • APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS, CODES AND STANDARDS CONCERNING THE SAFE HANDLING, STOWAGE, SECURING NO TRANSPORT OF CARGOES
  • Plans and actions conform with international regulations
  • Requirements applicable to cargo handling gear
  • Contents and application of ISGOTT
  • Code of practice for the safe loading and unloading of bulk carriers (BLU Code)
  • SAFE CARGO HANDLING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE RELEVANT INSTRUMENTS
  • Establish procedures for safe cargo handling in accordance with the provisions of the relevant instruments such as:

- IMDG Code

- IMSBC Code

- MARPOL 73/78, Annexes III and V

  • Surveys and dry-docking
  • Responsibilities under the relevant requirements of the international conventions and codes

Goals and competencies

The subject should learn the basics of technical drawing, practice the understanding of technical drawings, in order to be able to at least "see" what is in the plan and also to write simpler elements themselves. They will familiarize themselves with the symbols of power plants, installations and electrical schemes, and learn about the basic rules of technical drawing, the types of technical documentation, the meaning and marking of tolerance, domestic standardization, the system of international ISO standards, the importance of technical regulations, the systems of letters of credit for testing and certification. Get to know the basic ship documentation, which is kept on a daily basis.

At the lectures, both Nautical and Marine engineer students listen all the contents, the teacher is guided in the course of the exercises according to the direction of study.
