Syllabus
The human body and its function. Infectious diseases, including tropical diseases. Possibilities of poisoning. Injuries and wounds. The basics of medical examination on board. Diagnosis and treatment. Pharmacology according to the means available to the ship. Hygiene on the ship. Disinfection. Disinsection. Requirements of the International Declaration of Health. Vaccination. Administration in relation to health.
Practical use of the International Shipping Manual and MFAG. Providing first aid. Practical procedures with injuries. Recovery procedures. Pain relief. Practical review. Placement of diagnosis and procedures with patient taking into account external medical advice (Radio Medica). International Code of Labeling (section of medicine). Procedures in special situations such as alcohol, drugs, teeth problems, childbirth. Transport of a patient or injured person, including transportation of a helicopter. Death at sea.

Goals and competencies
To train future Merchant Navy officers for the independent provision of emergency medical assistance and, through the use of a manual and telemedicine counseling, to stabilize and nurture the patient until the optimal health condition or the availability of several levels of medical care is restored in accordance with Chapter VI / 4-2 of the STCW Convention.
