Intelligent Maritime and Transport Systems Planning

ITS systems basics: role, terminological determinations, historical and current developments, evaluation, standardization;

Scientific-technological support to ITS: system theory, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, generic concepts of traffic, regulation and optimization of traffic systems, sensor technique, economics, legal issues;

ITS systems planning methodologies: ITS architecture (functional, information, physical, communication), national ITS architecture, program tools;

ITS enabling technologies: Communications, data processing and storing, data base management, information displays, localization systems, sensors, measuring equipment, actuators;

Selected reference ITS systems and services (on the project level): Intelligent highways. Intelligent vehicles. Travel information and guidance. Integrated routing & dispatching (logistics). Freight and fleet management. Public transport management. Traffic, incident and demand management. Law enforcement systems and emergency services. Localization and navigation ITS services. Its solutions for safety improvements in road, rail, air and sea transport.

Goals and competencies

ITS systems offer new, advanced ways of reaching higher sustainable mobility in the present communication and information society. The basic aim of the course is to acquire new knowledge about intelligent transport systems and services from the point of view of rationalization, safety, better information, higher comfort, shorter travel times and ecological irreproachability of managing traffic flows.

The specific competence of the course relate to planning and recognizing the basic relations and solutions which integration of sensors, computers, electronics, communication and information technologies and managing strategies introduces into different traffic and transport systems with the aim of improvements, rational management, safety, effectiveness, creation of friendlier working places, etc.
