Materials in Transport


Syllabus

Composition of matter and connected propertis, reaction of compounds, natural materials, artificial materials, dangerous substances

Properties of materials in transport (agregate state, density, volatility, solubility, corrosity, toxicity, radioactivity, inflammability, explosivity, foundamentals of chemical thermodynamics.

Materials in transport: oil products, fuels, lubricants, thecnical gases, water, solutions, chemicals, polymers, food products.

The quality and packaging of materials in transport.

Dangerous substances in transport: properties of dangerous substances,

classification, packaging, labeling, manipulation, storage and transport, incompatibility of dangerous substances.

Transportation of dangerous goods, ADR, RID, IATA, IMDG codes.

Goals and competencies

The goal of this subject is to give students knowledge about the basic properties of materials, natural and artificial. The properties of dangerous substances will be presented more in details. Students in the frame of this subject also get technical knowledge about the manufacturing of different products. Next goal is the knowledge about packaging, manipulation during the transportation of goods in order to mantain the quality of goods. Special attention will be devoted to the transport of dangerous goods. Students will have knowledge about the specificity of the transport of different goods, with an emphasis on the transport of dangerous goods. Student will be able to use this knowledge for planning and execution of transportation, as well as solving with transportation connected problems.
