Routine maritime communication in the Northern Adriatic Sea area

Abstract:
Despite the fact that the rules and recommendations regarding maritime communication in English are regulated by a number of international documents, research shows that maritime communication in practice still deviates fundamentally from the international standard protocol of communication. The number of research studies in this field is scant because of difficult access to authentic data and, in addition, the time-consuming and demanding construction and analysis of spoken corpora. The 28th Kappra will present an analysis of the spoken corpus of routine maritime communication in the Northern Adriatic Sea area in terms of compliance with internationally applicable rules and recommendations.
