Adriatic Sensitive Areas Protection – mechanism (ASAP)

FPP project manager: Sr. Instr. Mag. Valter SUBAN

Coworkers:

Project duration: from 01.09.2024 to 28.02.2027

Project financing: Interreg funds, IPA Adrion Programme

Despite high navigation standards, sea accidents and pollution can occur, impacting the environment and economy beyond borders. The ASAP project strengthens Adriatic maritime protection by sharing best practices, assessing risks, and enhancing response capacities in 6 countries. Joint procedures, training, and exercises will improve coordination, leading to a roadmap for a Permanent Coordination Platform.

Building on North Adriatic experience, ASAP focuses on large-scale accidents requiring transnational cooperation. It supports Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, and Slovenia in developing common Standard Operating Procedures for joint action and better communication. Targeted training will align skills and knowledge among first responders, especially in IPA countries. Three simulation exercises across the Adriatic will test readiness. In the end, the project aims to establish a solid, structured cross-border response mechanism.
